It is only through the observance of these standards that individuals and teams can attain maximum achievement, show their commitment to excellence in health and conditioning, and fulfill their responsibilities as leaders. Spokane Youth Lacrosse embraces and supports this Code of Conduct for its participants and agrees to abide by the conditions of this code. The following team rules have been established by the SYLA Board of Directors to support the SYLA coaching staff and players in fairness to all who may choose to participate in this club sport. The SYLA Team Code of Conduct addresses the most relevant issues to SYLA player participation. If issues arise that are not covered in the SYLA Code of Conduct, the issue will be handled at the discretion of the Board of Directors. It is the responsibility of the players and parents to read and understand this document. We support an open dialogue with the parents of our organization to ensure these guidelines are followed. Drug/Tobacco/Alcohol Policy The SYLA is committed to a  drug, alcohol and tobacco free environment. If you choose to use, there will be consequences commensurate with the individual circumstances that may include suspension or removal from the program. Any drug/alcohol/tobacco related incidences will be reviewed and handled at the discretion of the SYLA Head Coach of the players division. In the unfortunate event of an action occurring that warrants severe disciplinary action be taken, the Head Coach will report the incident to the SYLA Board of Directors. The Board will have discussion with the parents and player involved before deciding upon the appropriate action to be taken. Attendance, Practices and Games It is understood that throughout the course of a season player absences will occur. Whether absences are planned or not the same result occurs: The loss of critical practice time for the player in learning game strategies and in developing physical conditioning. Inconvenience to the team and coaching staff in scheduling an effective practice regimen. A single, legitimate absence communicated well in advance will not be an issue. Please understand, multiple planned absences, communicated or not, will undoubtedly affect your standing with the team Players are required to be on time for games and practice. Practices - On time for practice means fully dressed and equipped to play when the whistle blows to begin practice. Fully dressed and equipped means you have all of the following items as necessary: stick, helmet, mouth-guard, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, cleats, team practice jersey, team practice shorts or appropriate warm up/sweat pants. Game shorts and game jersey are not appropriate for practice. Games - On time for games means you are at the field, ready to help set up 30 mins before scheduled start time or whatever time set by your coach for that game. In addition to items listed above you must bring game shorts, game jersey. Team Discipline Policy and Procedure As a member of the SYLA, your actions on and off the field are viewed as representative of the entire program. Actions detrimental to the integrity of the SYLA will not be tolerated. Examples of these actions include, but are not limited to, failure to refrain from drugs/alcohol/tobacco, getting in trouble with the law, unsportsmanlike conduct, fighting, taunting, foul language, and any disrespect to coaches, referees or fellow teammates. Whenever infractions of these guidelines and policies occur discipline will be handled by the appropriate coach, and without fail the incident shall be reported to the Head Coach of the respective division. The Head Coach for the Division has the discretion to determine whether the discipline instilled for the infraction is adequate. If in the Head Coach s opinion further discipline is necessary, a report shall be submitted to the Board of Directors detailing the incident and requesting further guidance. The Board of Directors will review the incident and provide a decision. Any decision handed down by the Board of Directors shall be final.
