Batting: Coaches will exchange batting lineups. Strikes/Outs/runs count Only missed swings count as strikes; there will be no called strikes. Each batter is allowed six hittable balls excluding foul balls. A hittable ball is defined as a ball in the players strike zone. The coach running the pitching machine is responsible for adjusting the height of the pitches so that the batters do not have to change their stance in order to hit the ball. If a player does not swing at the six hittable balls, the coach working the plate may call him out. Teams bat until there are three outs but never more than one full rotation. If teams have an unequal number of players, the team with the fewest players shall bat until there are three outs or they have batted one full rotation plus the number of batters that will in total equal the number of players on the other team. The fielding teams coach runs pitching machine Warming up is only allowed in the on-deck cage No bunting. Base running: No stealing or leading off. Ground balls to infield, one base only Clean ground balls to outfield, player may take up to two bases, otherwise one base only. Clean means no defensive player touches the ball nor does it go between a players legs. Line drives, player may take as many bases as possible Fly ball to outfield, player may take as many bases as possible No tagging up on caught fly balls Ball bouncing over the fence is a ground rule double Over the fence is a home run On a ball to the outfield, all base runners stop advancing on bases when outfielder throws the ball into the infield. On an infield hit, all base runners stop advancing on an overthrow to any base. Cleats and baseball pants are required. It is strongly recommended that catchers wear cups. Player Pitch: Approximately half way through the season, we will transition from machine pitch to player pitch. The coach of the pitcher (or designee from same team) will call balls and strikes. We will follow the pitching rules for AAA ball, which are: Pitchers may throw at most 2 innings per game and six innings per week Rest is dependent on the number of innings pitched: 1 innings or less require one day of rest. 2 innings pitched, the pitcher requires 3 full days of rest. A week is a continuous seven day period. A fresh week does not start on Sunday or Monday. (Except if a pitcher pitches three innings on Friday and three innings on Tuesday, his/her next week starts on Saturday.) Innings pitched per pitcher will be on the honor system and each coach shall keep track of his own pitchers. One pitch in an inning is considered an entire inning pitched. Balks are not enforced. Once a pitcher is removed from the mound, he/she cannot return to pitch in that game. A pitcher must be removed from the game on his/her third hit batsman of the game. Two in one inning will also constitute a pitchers removal. Lightning If lightning OR thunder occurs, players must be removed from the field. Thunder is an indicator of a potential lightning strike and must be treated as seriously as lightning itself. Players must leave the field and dugout area and return to their vehicles. The game is suspended for a FULL TWENTY MINUTES. The storm is given a chance to pass If after 20 minutes, no lightning or thunder is observed, play resumes If thunder or lightning is observed a second time, the game is ended. Players must leave the field and dugout area and return home. If the home team is winning, the game is official after thee and one-half innings of play If the home team is losing, the game is official after four full innings of play. If a suspended game is not official, it will be made up at a later date and replayed from the beginning. Delayed games must adhere to the one hour and 45 minute rule. That is, no full inning should played one hour and 45 minutes after the start of the game Under no circumstances should a parent or child be pressured into playing when he/she is not comfortable doing so. There should be little need for changes to these rules, but if a need arises, get agreement prior to the start of the game.
