Web site: Everyone on Board will have a SYHA e-mail address. Kevin OBrien will set this up. Callan will need access to post schedules on website. Team rosters have been posted on website. Team managers will have access to website to post team scores. It was suggested it would be nice to activate the stats component of the website. Suggestion: At coaches meeting Kevin OB could let coaches know how to access different things on website. Treasurer: People are paying fee. May need to program another reminder for Aug. 1. Suggestion that Board be firmer regarding late payment of fees and not allowing players to begin practices without full payment. Aug. 15 proposed as deadline for final reminder. Cindy Meisenheimer should be sent e-mail regarding when final reminder will be sent so she can post any checks received prior to final reminder date. Tryouts & Placements: No hearings requested. Placement letters will be going out July 4 weekend. Board policy is not to give out team scores. Goalies will also be given scores this year. Ten-point system used for scoring this year, so total points per player will be higher. If 1st and 2nd year players scores were statistically tied, 2nd yr. player was given preference for higher level team. Question about reviewing players again in the fall. Would be too time-consuming. # of complaints has been drastically reduced with new tryout format. AYHL/NYHL: Rich B will introduce himself at each rink. Both Bantam teams are in at Northstar. Twin City no longer at Northstar. Coaches: Four interview sessions held. Lots of experienced people. Proposed slate of Head Coaches: M3: Raymond Charest M2: Steve Tepper M1: Jay Borys S4: Andy Murray S3: Mike Holloway S2: Brett Frankian S1: Mike Storer P3: Daryl Johnson P2: Roy Smith P1: Todd Osik B2: Ed Manion B1: Grant McGimpsey Motion to accept slate of head coaches as presented by coaching committee. Motion seconded. No discussion. Unanimous acceptance. League will reimburse coaches for coaches clinics up to the level required for the team they are coaching. Only four coaches are allowed on the bench at games. Bantams at B & C level because teams will need to pull up from Peewees for each game. Bantam teams could move up during parity rounds. Each Peewee can play up 4 times per league; a P1 player can go to B1, B2, and B3; a P2 player can go to B2 and B3; etc. Dumart & Zucker will coach Midgets. 21 Midgets have signed up; 7 others have given verbal commitments. Recommendation for agenda discussion item at next meeting: Addition of statement in Appendixe of By-laws regarding members of coaching committee applying for head coach positions Skills: Coaches from last year plus head coaches for this year will receive copy of proposal. Feedback from them will be solicited. Objective of program is to improve all players skills. Key points: There would be a 26-week skill schedule. Each week, each team would also have at least one practice together. There would be one skills program at each level with one session per week with service providers and coaches. With12 teams plus midgets and same ice structure as last year, each team could get one skills session per week and one -ice slot per week for practice. Would try to be consistent about times skills would be taught. Coaches will have pre-developed set of skills/drills for practices. Drills may be adjusted based on what service provider is doing. Goalie skills would be every other week. Goalie skills/drills have not been formalized yet. Skills format: 4-5 stations per session. Skills would start Sept. 15. First 11 weeks would be run by an outside provider, but SYHA coaches would be there. The service provider would need to incorporate coaches in the program and have a role for coaches at each skills session. Two checking sessions for Peewees and Bantams should be worked into early sessions. It was also recommended that some coach ice slots be built into beginning of season with provider. House League coaches could also be invited to these sessions. Also a possibility of piloting an off-ice conditioning program with one team. E-mail should be sent to parents re: how skills will be addressed this year. Recommendation: A meeting with parents with or without the service provider before a practice to explain program. Based on last years figures, the cost would fall within the budget. However, cost estimate for skills program can not be determined until provider is finalized and coaches have given input. Fundraising: 106 hats left from last year for House League hats. House League sponsor from last year may do it again this year. Recommendation: Team sponsors go from $600 to $400 for this year. If teams got hats, there would be a need to buy more hats for this year. Team practice jerseys are also an option this year. Company sponsor would be on the back of the jersey and SYHA logo on front. Recommendation: Do either practice jerseys or hats. Go with jerseys for teams and caps for House League. Cost would be $ 330/team if 12 teams. No cost put in for goalie equipment. Dicks may do something for us for goalie bags. Embroidery Unlimited may also do something to help with bags. No coaches game sponsor last year; there should be a push to get one for this year. Raffle items need to be pushed; if an individual didnt want to be sponsor could donate raffle items. Dinner dance for adults could be a fundraiser in Sept/Oct. Sharks game also may be fundraiser. Help is needed with organizing fundraising events. Kevin F. will send out e-mail to get individuals together for fundraising committee. Captive Images and Polito likely sponsors for this year. Equipment: League has 8 sets of equipment (chest protector, blocker, catcher, pads, stick) for Mites and Squirts. Most of the goalie bags are unusable because of their condition (ripped; broken zipper; holes; worn). Many of the blockers are being held together with duct tape. Many of the sticks have been cut down making them improperly balanced and therefore unusable. There is only one throat protector. None of the goalie pads are butterfly-style. Pads are the most expensive piece of equipment, starting at roughly $200 for butterfly-style. Equipment needs to be replaced with either new or used. Street hockey equipment could be used for House League. Motion: Allow expenditure up to $2000 for new goalie gear. Seconded. Discussion. Unanimous vote to accept motion. Recommendation to initially buy one Mite and two Squirt sets. Merchandizing: All set for next year. Individuals can go on SYHA website and click on Embroidery Unlimited to see what merchandise can be bought. Orders can be put through directly through Jim Winski (EU). Recommendation: Do agreement with EU for a percentage of on-line sales if he is our exclusive provider. If item is not pictured on website, EU can usually get it. Kevin F. will approach EU about doing agreement. Scheduling: Callan will contact Carol Walsh. Registrar: Kevin OB will help Ted to get copies of USA Hockey registrations online. State Tournament: Mass Hockey has P3 tournament available which would be equivalent to our P2 level. Last years Squirt tournament was successful, so league should do again. Team Pictures: Captive Images contacted us about this year. Company will do same thing as last year. Question if all pictures could be taken on-ice. To do this, however, takes up ice time. It was felt that it worked out well last year doing pictures off-ice. Next meeting: Monday, July 28, 2008, 7 pm at Butler-Dearden, Boylston.
