To All OLYF Parents:

Just wanted to drop everyone a note since our season is almost half way over to say how much we all appreciate the parental support our organization has had this season. Our large attendance at Apopka yesterday was evidence of how you, as parents, are very involved in your children’s lives. What a great feeling to be an Oviedo Lion!!!

Speaking of yesterday, what a beautiful day we had over at Apopka at their state-of-the-art football complex. I can’t tell you how many people approached me and asked me why we can’t have something like this in Oviedo. I want you to know that I have the same questions that you have as to why the City of Oviedo can’t provide the same type of facilities for our football/cheer program. I am not a politician and certainly do not claim to know how City government works; however, we certainly deserve something as adequate as the complex we observed yesterday. I can tell you that the City of Oviedo, Dru Boulware and his staff have been very receptive and accommodating to OLYF by providing the Long Lake facility exclusively for us to practice football/cheer from August thru November.

I think a great place to start is by making sure and showing loyalty to anyone who is elected to the Oviedo City Council that makes the needs of our program one of their top priorities. I have never been approached by any present City Council member seeking any information as to the future needs of OLYF. We now have a chance to do so by making sure that the needs of our program are recognized immediately. We now have a member of our football/cheer family this is currently running for Oviedo City Council that understands our immediate needs. Please make sure that you keep Rob Thrift in mind when voting at the polls in November as he can be a voice for OLYF in the upcoming years. He and his wife, Chantel (OLYF Board member) have been very instrumental and supportive of OLYF as we continue to be a first-class program in the Mid-Florida Pop Warner organization.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support in this worthwhile youth program. We have the best parents ever!!!!
