Sportsmanship is a value that begins at the lowest levels and is demonstrated by players, coaches, and spectators. Victor Community Baseball & Softball requires the highest standards of sportsmanship to be exhibited by Board members, coaches, parents, players and spectators. Participation in our program requires adherence to the following guiding principles and conduct: Code of Ethics for our Players Respect the integrity and judgment of umpires and other league officials. It is more important to demonstrate a good attitude, teamwork and sportsmanship than it is to win a game. 3. Always address umpires, opponents and coaches with respect. 4. It is OK to congratulate your opponents after a good play. 5. Accept both winning and losing with dignity. 6. Respect your opponents, fellow team members, coaches and officials. 7. Profanity or abusive language or actions will not be tolerated. 8. Understand and follow all rules and regulations. Code of Conduct for Coaches and Assistants 1. You are a role model for all players and spectators. They will do what you do. If you are out of control, your players and spectators will be out of control. If you are calm, your players and spectators will be calm as well. This is especially important in travel ball. When you go to other towns to represent Victor and VCBS, you are held to a higher standard than coaches in other programs. 2. Address players, as you would have them address you. 3. Stress to players that it is more important to demonstrate a good attitude, teamwork and sportsmanship than it is to win a game. 4. Respect the integrity and judgment of umpires and other league officials. 5. We are playing the game for the kids. Gratification for the coaches is not important. 6. Profanity or abusive language or actions will not be tolerated. 7. Recognize that our participants are young athletes and mistakes will occur. Demonstrate the highest degree of patience when mistakes occur. Code of Conduct for Parents and Spectators 1. Set an example of good sportsmanship for all children to follow. 2. Cheer for players on either team in a positive manner. 3. Your child does not enjoy the game when you criticize and/or verbally abuse umpires and coaches. 4. Learn and understand the rules of the game to become a better-informed spectator. 5. Remember not to criticize unless you’re willing to support your words with actions to correct the problem. If you see an area that needs to be addressed, get involved. 6. Profanity or abusive language or actions will not be tolerated. 7. Emphasize the importance of team play vs. individual play. Disciplinary Actions and Procedures Ejection from a game: Any player, coach or spectator who is ejected from a game by an umpire will not be allowed to participate in the team’s next game. If the ejection occurs during a tournament, the violator will not be allowed to participate in any further games on the day he/she was ejected. There is no appeal. Code of Conduct violations: 1st Offense First offenses will be dealt with immediately or in a separate forum convened by the Rules and Conduct Committee (*). Violations witnessed by any VCBS Board or Committee member or League President should be dealt with by taking the following steps: Place a copy of Code of Conduct in an envelope and present to the violator Ask the violator to sign the Code of Conduct and return it to the concession stand within 24 hours. Failure to do so will result in suspension from participation (including spectators) in VCBS until the document is signed. 2nd Offense Second offenses will result in automatic suspension from the next two (2) games/contests. 3rd Offense Three offenses in one season will result in expulsion from all VCBS contests and events for the balance of the year. (*) Notes: All offenses not witnessed by a league official will be acted on by the Rules and Conduct Committee, but only upon receipt of written correspondence to VCBS. Based upon the severity of a violation, the Rules and Conduct Committee reserves the right to meet with the offending person(s) in a separate forum the Rules and Conduct Committee reserves the right to expel the offending person(s) for two games/contests, the entire season or ban them for life. The Rules and Conduct Committee’s goal is to resolve all issues within 72 hours of receipt of a written account of an incident.
