VCBS 2007 Recreational Baseball Leagues Age Change and Play Up Policy In accordance with USA Baseball, VCBS has changed its league age determination date from July 31 to April 30. Therefore, a players age as of 4/30 in the current calendar year will become his/her baseball league age for the current season. The effect of this rule change is that players with birth dates in May, June and July will possess a baseball age younger than many of their grade-level peers in school. In some cases, these players will want to play in the same VCBS league as their school friends. VCBS provides the opportunity for players to play up into the next Recreational League age grouping, provided that they can demonstrate the necessary skill and maturity level to effectively compete with older children. For the 2007 VCBS Recreational Leagues: - A player with a 2007 baseball age of 8 may tryout for placement into the Minors League. For placement, the player MUST attend evaluations and MUST achieve an evaluation score* that falls in the top 50% of the scores for prospective Minors players. Players not fulfilling these requirements will be placed in the Rookie Division. - A player with a 2007 baseball age of 10 may tryout for placement into the Majors League. For placement, the player MUST attend evaluations and MUST achieve an evaluation score* that falls in the top 50% of the scores for prospective Majors players. Players not fulfilling these requirements will be placed in the Minors League. - A player with a 2007 baseball age of 12 AND currently enrolled in 7th grade may elect to play Majors, Seniors, or both (multiple fees would apply). * - Hitting and fielding only These requirements are in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all VCBS players. If a player cannot attend the evaluation sessions and provides prior notice, VCBS may, at its discretion, schedule an alternate evaluation. Please note that if a child plays up in a higher division, they will not be eligible for Competitive or Extended Season play in the higher division. He/she will remain eligible for Competitive or Extended Season play at their baseball age level. This provision does not apply to players participating in the Seniors program.
