Some selected information: Length of games differs by age group. The offsides rule is enforced beginning with U12/11v11. U10 goal kicks cannot go past the mid-field line. Goalkeepers cannot use their hands outside the penalty box cannot use their hands on a ball last kicked by their own player (i.e., pick up a pass from their player) cannot kick or throw the ball past the mid-field line Teams are on one side of the field and spectators must be on the opposite side. Coaches must stay in their team area, and are not allowed to coach from behind the goal or to the other side of the field. The NVYSL has a УSupport for RefereesФ bylaw that prohibits spectators, coaches or players from yelling at the referee. Coaches may be held responsible for the behavior or their supporters. Specifics are in the schedule book. Coach Responsibilities for U10 and up Fall Pre-season June: Participate in jamboree June-August: Participate in roster creation process August: Receive roster from age group Coordinator August: Obtain/restock equipment from Equipment Manager (Scott McCready 456-8384, 118 W. Bare Hill). HSC will provide practice balls, cones; pinnies, goalie shirt, 1 pair goalie gloves; corner flags (used at home games); game ball, first aid kit, two cold packs. August: Call field coordinator (Dennis Bradley, HYPERLINK "mailto:dbinne@aol.com" dbinne@aol.com, 456-9719, 110 Littleton Rd.) and obtain a suitable practice time . Most teams practice once a week for 1-1 ╜ hrs. although some teams may practice more often. Practices start 1-2 weeks before the season starts, earlier for higher division teams. NOTE: Practice fields are at a premium in the Fall when school teams have priority. Late practice times become problematic in the Fall due to diminishing daylight and the time change. August: Contact all players/parents with initial information: coach name, phone number dates for first practices (usually 1-2 before season start) equipment needs (uniform, practice ball, shin guards, soccer cleats, no jewelry including pierced earrings, water bottle) NOTE: The earlier you get your practice times and call your players, the less likely players will have conflicts (music lessons, gymnastics, etc.) and request to switch teams. Late August: Attend NVYSL coachТs meeting (or arrange for coordinator to attend) in order to pick up NVYSL packet.. Packet contains Certified roster. Make 16+ copies (2 copies for each game: 1 for referee and 1 for opposing team). If known, put uniform numbers next to each playerТs name prior to copying. Game cards (1 for each home game) Referee evaluation cards NVYSL schedule books (1 for each player and coach) Late August/Early September: Attend HSC coachТs meeting if there is one (usually week before season starts) to learn about rule changes, and/or contact the coordinator to obtain: CoachТs packet (contains player registration forms with medical treatment authorization, and other information from the HSC registrar). Early September: After you receive your schedule, identify and resolve any TBAТs (To Be Announced) for your team that are noted in the schedule book. To do this: Call the opposing coach. Schedule the game at a mutually agreeable date and time that is within 2 weeks before or after the original play date specified in the schedule book. NOTE: Fall TBAТs are easier to schedule on weekends; weekdays are problematic due to diminishing daylight. If you are the home team, once you have an agreed time call Dennis Bradley to schedule a field and referee. If you and the other coach cannot come to an agreement (or you are unable to reach the opposing coach) call the NVSYL age-group coordinator (see front of schedule book). The age-group coordinator will assign the day and time as defined for your age group in the NVYSL schedule book.. Late August: Prepare team communication letter, if desired (e.g., puts practice time in writing, specifies expectations, etc.) Late August/Early September: Conduct first practice. Distribute uniforms (you will be notified where to pick these up), team list and other communications. Late August/Early September: Schedule/conduct team meeting that includes parents and players. There are some issues that seem to crop up on a regular basis. For example, negative comments about teammates, inappropriate parental sideline behavior, and lack of volunteers to play the goalie position. By having a team meeting and discussing expected behavior before the first game, problem situations can be avoided or reduced. It can also be very useful for players who are new to the age group or to the Harvard Soccer Club. Potential topics for discussion: Practices: day/time, what to bring, what will happen Games: home field, arrival time, carpooling Club goals: Fun Good sportsmanship Ц towards own team as well as other team Positive social interaction Team building Skills improvement Required equipment: cleats, shin guards, uniforms, NO jewelry or hard hair ornaments of any kind. Play guidelines Equal play time for all players. Play at a variety of positions. Discuss the goalie position specifically. Fairness of having everyone play goalie How goalieТs will be selected, e.g., volunteers or alphabetically if there arenТt enough volunteers Time limit (one quarter or half, max) Planned goalie practice time to help everyone feel more comfortable in the position, etc. Player behavior: Support for teammates, attendance, what to do if you canТt attend practice or game, etc. Spectator behavior Ц this is frequently discussed in the coordinatorТs parentТs letter, but some highlights are: Spectators are required to stand on the opposite side of the field from the teams. No one should talk to or yell at the referee during the game; warnings or forfeit may result Let the coaches coach. Parents should encourage players, but should not give direction to any player including their own child Ц it distracts the child from the game and may be in conflict with what the coach told her to do. Practices Prepare practice plan and communicate to assistant coaches Arrive 15 minutes early to prepare field (e.g., move goals, assess field conditions) Conduct practice Discuss next game/practice (arrival time, carpooling, directions, etc.) Return field to proper condition Middle School field Ц In Fall Season, move all goals back from field hockey sidelines at practice end. Pick up trash and left property (water bottles, jackets, etc.) Make sure goals are secured with sand bags!! Games Call coach of next game several days prior to game. Confirm date, time, location, field and directions. If fields are questionable or there is lightening, and it is a home game, verify that game will take place. Games are only cancelled due to field conditions or lightening. If there is some question about either of these, you may contact Dennis Bradley (456-9719) after 7:30 a.m. the morning of the game. Listen to the message on the machine. NOTE: It is against league policy for coaches to make their own decision! Arrive 15-30 minutes prior to game. Inspect field If home game: Set up field, including corner flags. Make sure goals are secured with sand bags! Fill out game card Provide game ball Greet opposing coach Get players to start warm up as soon as they begin to arrive. Greet referee and provide with two copies of certified roster and game card (if home game) Get the refereeТs id number (for reporting on the referee evaluation card) Play game Ц Keep score Assure proper conduct of players and their spectators At game end Shake hands with opposing coach and referee Remind team of next practice Return field to proper condition (goals moved back w/sandbags, corner flags removed, trash picked up) Report the game id from schedule book and score by Sunday evening to Dennis Bradley, 456-9719. Complete referee feedback card Ц the league greatly appreciates this. At season end, some teams have a gathering after the last game and some donТt. Post season November: Complete player evaluation form that includes all players on the team. November: Discuss season with coordinator November: Return equipment if changing age-groups, or not coaching next season Spring Season Indoor clinics typically take place at the Devens Sports Arena in February and/or March. Rosters are distributed in March. Games start usually the first weekend in April and ends usually the first weekend in June. There are no games Memorial day, but there are games both weekends surrounding April school vacation. Spring Player evaluations should be completed the first June in order to allow sufficient processing prior to the Jamboree. ,E▄╙ ╘ ў ° ∙ -8ш╙#▀#r&¤∙∙ЎЁ∙ЎщЎ▀щ┌щЎЁЎ∙ЎЁЎЁЎ0JCJБjCJU jCJU 5Б>*CJCJ5БCJCJ*+,EF╛┐цP\Лї+{ў┘┌█4i¤√√√√√√√ЎЎЎЎшшшЎЎЎ√√√√ц√сс & F & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & Fr&■iЬг ╣ ў L ╞ ╟ w x ¤ л═ц╠Uў}····ьььъфф·╓╓╓╓·╚·║║║ & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨Дh^Дh & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & F}Щ╡├─хFSWУп╜╨2Bdп╫;a╝'Шёьььъф▀▀▀┌┌┌┌┌▀▀┌┌╒╒╒╒▀▀ & F & F & F Дh^Дh & F & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ШыH,-8s╚┘!BйшД% I W e ╖ ╩ ▄ ё /!···°Ўёёёёёууу°Ў▐▐▐▐▐ууу▐▐ & F & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & F & F /!К!╒!ь!""."Z"w"▌"<#В#╥#╙#▀#р#1$[$к$л$╣$║$%5%Ў%r&·····ььььь·ъшъуу▐ъъъ▐▐▐▐ & F & F & F ╞h╨Д╨^Д╨ & F░╨/ ░р=!░╨"░╨#Ра$Ра%░┐D╨╔ъy∙║╬МВкKй dbinne@aol.comр╔ъy∙║╬МВкKй ,mailto:dbinne@aol.com i0@ё 0 Normal_HmH sH tH 0@0 Heading 1$@&5Б4@4 Heading 2$@&5БCJ<A@Є б< Default Paragraph Font.U@вё.
