This equal weighting with tryout evaluations is due to SMS believing that the coaches learn more about a player over the season than can be learned during a tryout. Tryouts are equally important. They enable SMS to normalize player rankings across teams and across age groups, something beyond the scope of an individual coach’s consideration. Instructions: Grade players from 1-5, a grade of 1 being least skilled, a grade of 5 being the most skilled. A grade of 3 is average. Compile an aggregate score for each player, and rank your players from highest to lowest based on their combined score. The player with the highest score is ranked#1, second #2 and so on. Sanity check the final ranking by considering if it is consistent with the order in which you would pick the team for next season if you were choosing from this same pool of players.
