Sudbury teams will play against teams from over 50 Massachusetts cities and towns. Our players are selected for 3-5 teams from a thorough evaluation process. Participation on these teams requires a significant time commitment! Before trying out for one of these teams, players and their families should carefully consider the extent of the time commitment required. Bay State players will be expected to take no more than one week of vacation from June 18 August 17. Preferably, no vacation should be planned at all during the last two weeks of June and during the Tournament of Champions which begins in early August and goes through August 17th. Any player with a travel commitment or vacation plans must make the tryout evaluation team aware of their vacation plans. Vacation plans must be identified on the Bay State registration form. Significant absence plans will influence the selection results and unexcused absences may result in suspension from the team. The Bay State season begins in mid-June and ends on August 17. For 2008, the Bay State Managers are: A Team: Mike Walsh B Team: Al Fordiani Additional B Team: TBD C Team: TBD Additional C Team: TBD At the A & B Levels, there will generally be 4 games and 2 practices each week. At the C level, expect 3 games and 2 practices every week. At all three levels there are mid-season and end-of-season tournament weekends. During the pre-season, (i.e. last 2 weeks of June), at all levels practices will be 6 - 7 days a week. Games are scheduled both mid-week (5:30 or 7:30) and on weekends from 10:00 AM on. Pre-game warm-ups will be significantoften 1.5 to 2.5 hours before game times. Home games and most practices are held at the Featherland field complex. The Teams are selected based on tryouts and spring season performance. The tryouts will be conducted on June 8th and 9th by a group of experienced managers and coaches. Players should come prepared for a rigorous tryout. They will be evaluated on: Speed, Fielding, Pitching, and, Hitting. Teams are usually formed with 12 Roster Players, however a team may have fewer, and each team may have playing alternates. Alternates may be asked to practice with the team, but would only be asked to substitute in games in special circumstances. Alternates are eligible and encouraged to play on the In-Town Sudbury Sandlot League. Due to Bay State League rules established in 2007, league age 12 year olds are no longer eligible for the B division. This unfortunately will significantly reduce the number of league age 12 year olds eligible to play Bay State Baseball from Sudbury this summer and is beyond the control of Sudbury Little League. All players who register for Bay State will pay $225 registration fee. If the player is not placed on a Bay State team, he/she will be placed on an In-Town team, unless SLL is notified not to place the player on an In-Town team. If placed on an In-Town team, $125 will be refunded. The player will be fully refunded the $225 registration fee if not placed on any team. In addition to player commitments, team parents will be expected to volunteer for snack shack duty and field preparation duties at mid-week games and during Tournament and Host weekend events. The snack shack must be staffed and open for all Featherland home games.
