2006 11 Year Old Select Team

The North Stamford 11 year old All Stars had a good summer of baseball.

Coming into the 2006 summer season as Connecticut’s 9/10 year old District One Champions, this team of North Stamford 11 year olds was the team to beat and we knew we had our work cut out for us.  Needless to say, the boys showed tremendous “attitude and effort” and played hard every inning along the way.

The district tournament for us resulted in two impressive wins over Darien and Darien American with a couple of tough losses to Ridgefield and Wilton.  With two losses in this double elimination tournament it was off to the Stamford American (SA) Post-District Tournament with the desire to keep playing some baseball.

The boys entered the SA Post-District Tournament hungry for some wins and came away with good 2 solid wins in hard fought games against two 12 year old teams - Federal and our own North Stamford 12’s.  The boys also lost a tough one to the Stamford American 12’s in seven innings!

Ending the summer with close to a .500 record I know that the boys learned how to win the hard way and take some losses well.  Most importantly, they continued to play as a team through thick and thin.  Every player contributed.  I’m proud of these kids.  I know that their parents are too.  It was a pleasure to coach them.

I’d like to thank my coaches Mike O’Leary and Phil Delmazio for their assistance this summer.  It is an enormous time commitment and the boys are fortunate to have such experienced coaches teaching them the game.

My last thought is that many of the boys on this team have been playing together in NSLL and on All Star teams for four or more years now and I can only say that I am very optimistic about our chances as 12 year olds next summer.
