2006 9-10 Year Old Select Team

This past summer the North Stamford 9-10 select team (North Stamford West) accomplished something that had never been done before in the 23 year history of the Shelton Little Fellows Tournament. After losing its first game in the double elimination tournament, the team went on to win an unprecedented 8 in a row to win it all. Indeed, after suffering a tough loss in the opening round against rival Springdale, the never say die kids ran the table, including winning a double header against Trumbull American for the championship. In fact, to get to the finals, the team first had to get past Springdale again, which it did in a Friday night classic. On its way to win the championship, the team also prevailed over rival Stamford American, Ridgefield American, North End of Bridgeport, Trumbull National and Weston. 6 members of the team made the All-Tourney team one team member was named Tournament MVP. In winning, this team continued the dominance of prior North Stamford teams which had won the Shelton Tournament back to back in 2003 (managed by Frank Spoto) and then in 2004 (managed by Jeff Dolan).

Most of the players on the team have been playing together since they were 7 and 8 so for many this is their third and fourth season playing together. That experience paid off even prior to the Shelton Tournament, where the team went deep into the district tourney and was one game away from the district one finals. After 10 run ruling its first 2 opponents the team won a thriller over Stamford American in the bottom of the 6th - again showing that it is never over until the last out is made. It was that attitude and effort that the team brought to Shelton and proved to themselves that they could win no matter what the situation.
