US Lacrosse matters: 5. GirlТs Summer Season 6. BoyТs Summer Season a. Rules (Scott) Ц the biggest issue was having two refs at every game. Also to only allow one timeout per half. The season went smoothly and progress was made in the league. Coaching issues went away last year. Rob Ц will the board reexamine the two ref issue. Yes, the board will discuss that again for the 2009 season. Roster eligibility for playoffsЕcomment as we progress forward that we enforce the rostering rule more carefully. The board will readdress having rosters turn in. Dave Ц thought about having to balance teams. Discussion has occurred about how to handle multiple teams at certain 7/8 levels. We encourage any club that has more than one team at the 7/8 level to put one at the A level. It is not mandated. Associations with only one team can also put the team at the A level. Balance at 5/6 Ц is it encouraged but not required. With the growth of the sport we can eventually choose to split to A/B or we can keep it split with the better kids helping out the younger ones. b. Referee Matters (Eric) Ц Feel free to contact Eric with questions once the website is updated. Generally the challenges are growth, retention, quality, numbers, etc. Feedback on time formats, body checks, stick checks, number of referees, etc. welcome. Official scheduling Ц how can YLM help areas and associations staff their games? The big push will be scheduling, retention, training. UMLOA will sponsor and support training of youth officials. On-field training as well. OfficialТs biggest concerns were conduct, rostering, table rules, etc. Score sheets? Another idea will be to observe games around the area to mentor, train, observe, and support. Minnetonka instituted bonus/incentive plan for good refs. Attendance, uniform, on-field, etc. Ref evaluations forms? Laminate card? c. Coaches training (Greg) Ц The coach training will be just like last year Ц every coach is again required to attend to receive a badge and must complete the USL Level 1. Online course is recommended. We could think about designing an online YLM course. d.
