Annual Reports: Vice President of Travel Gave a recap of team performance for the 2006- 2007 season Commended the teams of their great success Expressed the need to continue to recruit news of teams successes will be a good tool Expressed the need to continue to build from the bottom up. Vice President of Recreation and Instruction Reported on the growth of both the recreational and instructional programs Gave a recap on team performance and congratulated teams on their success Discussed how the instructional program operated last season and talked about the plans for the future. Briefly discussed plans for the in-house Mite program for the 2007-2008 season. Vice President of Finance Distributed and discussed the 2006-2007 financial report Secretary Discussed pre-season meeting with all team managers with the intent of encouraging more interaction from our members and bringing more information out to the teams Discussed the delay in player awards and assured members that awards would be distributed very soon Treasurer/Director of Membership Gave membership report: with 235 players 150 travel/30 coaches and 85 recreational/15 coaches All fees for the 2006-2007 season have bee collected with no member outstanding On-line registration is up and running Director of Sponsorships Listed all club sponsors: Dr. Glen Cocoros D.D.S., The Bowie Star, Sani Sport of Bowie, Besam Entrance Solutions, Goodsearch.com Discussed a new source of revenue, though small Goodsearch.com (yahoo) has approved BHC as a charitable organization anytime someone uses this search engine, one penny will come back to the club this will be posted on the website urged its use by the membership Discussed revenue from Pucks-to-Bucks fundraising with Washington Capitals bringing in $2000 in rebate money money will be used to fund instructional program which now is fully funded for the next season. Director of Special Events Gave a recap of Opening Day explaining that the format of cross-ice tournaments, though new, was a great success bringing in over 80 skaters for the afternoon more club involvement than in the past. Plans are to continue this format for the new season. Discuss the tournaments, stating that they were a success for the club as a whole and expressed disappointment in the inability to attract teams for the U-18 and Peewee AA teams, explaining some of the difficulties with planning tournaments on holiday weekends when other clubs also offer tournaments. Discussed the success of the CARL mite Jamboree that BHC hosted. The success was so great that BHC was asked by CARL to host the Mite Jamboree once again next year. Head Coach Recapped team successes. Out of 9 travel teams, six made the play-offs with two making it to the championship game and one bringing home the banner - and the other three were very close to making play-offs. 2 recreational teams also made the finals of the CARL Cup. Explained that the goals for the Coaching staff at the beginning of the season were to improve our play, qualify for play-offs, and get enough resources for our teams. Explained that expectations were met for teams and hoping to uses resources a bit more wisely next year. Explained that coaches were all given the opportunity to spend money for their teams, some did so appropriately, some did not looking to improve this for next season Praise was given to coaches and parents for their dedication Announce to the membership that the new banners were now hanging in the rink Scheduler- Absent Equipment Manager Absent Webmaster Absent President Began by given a brief report for those absent. Expressed a desire for better scheduling for next season, explained that there would be continuing improvements to the website and plans for its future use, gave praise to equipment manager for an outstanding job and talked a little about future concerns over club Jerseys for the future seasons. Explained that there may be a design change and that suggestions will be brought before the membership for consideration talked about some alternatives to the current club jersey but stated that further discussion would take place in future meetings. Announced that he would be vacating his position this year and that it was difficult to leave. Praise and thanks was given to the board members and expressed that being a board member, especially president, was a bit more challenging then one would think. Recap of his 5 years of service and history with the club. John stated that his main goal was to keep kids on the ice, offering good opportunities with excellent coaching Explained that in the end, success is not in the number of teams or banners, but in the number of kids that grow with the club as hockey players and individuals. Key ingredient of a good club is offering as many opportunities as possible. Though it may not build the strongest teams, it does build the happiest teams. Expressed the need to continue to grow from the bottom up it is critical to build at the lower age levels The club also needs to focus on Goalie development Focus also needs to be on coaching development We need to also build volunteerism We need to build a sense of community and club unity NEW BUSINESS Member Dave Gould stood and gave praise to John for his years of service and dedication to the club as well as praise for Johns wife Sally, who has also been very dedicated to the Bowie Hockey Club Dave also gave thanks to Mark Manney for his service to the club Member Gould expressed concern over the clubs current nomination and elections process and expressed a need for change particularly those rules regarding the Presidency Concern was also expressed about the policy/procedures for Bi-Law changes club welcomes comments/suggestions for consideration There will be a club initiative to streamline the clubs handbook, which is the current operating guide for the BHC.
