Hockey Peewee Tier 3 tourney in Feb. 2009. Minutes: Minutes from July meeting will be updated and resent to all members. Treasurer: There is a short list of non-payers. The list will be looked at again in two weeks. It was recommended that friendly e-mail reminders be sent Sept. 1 with a 2-week deadline to send in payment. Level directors will handle any non-payments; coaches are not responsible for speaking to parents regarding non- payment. If there is a problem, the family should contact a board member. Families that have made arrangements to pay wont be on the non-payment list. The discrepancy between the amounts for socks and jerseys was looked into. The original order only charged for 1 unit of socks. Also, some extra shirts were ordered in case new players showed up. Skills: Lovell is not interested in giving a quote. It would be helpful to get some figures with them to help plan for next year. The league will go with Puckmasters, and Pat Nugent has already sent the contract. Herb Lade, Steve Tepper, and Pat will meet to go over details. Pat should develop the first 2 wks of each level to be reviewed by Herb and Steve. Herb and Steve will look at the tryouts scores to see where the needs are. A question was asked regarding why a quote was not gotten from Dillon. At a previous Board meeting, Lovell and Puckmasters were suggested so thats where quotes were gotten. Historically, Pat has tried to build relationships with the league. Coaches also prefer Pat. $190/hr was the fee agreed on with Puckmasters. Oct. 1 is the current date for the first session giving teams a month to jell. A question was asked regarding what the future goal of skills is. This will be reviewed by the board at the end of year with input from coaches. The goal this year is to take what was started last year, build skills, and increase the knowledge of the coaches so that coaches can run skills at end of year without help from an outside provider. Every year some money will be need to be spent on skills because coaches tend to follow their team and new coaches come into league. Coaches wanted to know at the coaches meeting why money was being spent on skills. Coaches also at meeting expressed that they want to be engaged in skills sessions. The first 4 sessions will be staffed by Pat Nugent (or a senior instructor) plus 4 other Puckmasters instructors. The next 3 sessions will have Pat Nugent (or a senior instructor) and another senior instructor; but the coaches will man the drills. The focus here is to not only teach the kids skills, but to train the coaches on how to identify the technical weakness, and how to instruct the player to improve it. Since we have a broad range of skills experience in our coaching staff, this will help elevate the overall experience in identification and correction of player skills. A question was asked if coaches need to know more about what's in store. It was proposed that a follow-on meeting with the coaches be planned. A question was asked about how everything gets documented so it gets outlined so parents can follow the progression of skills. Lots of sources of skills information out there, but the league will develop an 11-week plan of key teaching points and how to run logistics of the ice. The plans will be age-level appropriate. One will be able to tell the outcome of the program by scores at tryouts next year. However, you wont be able to isolate if only skills made a difference because kids may do other clinics or practices may account for change. Netminders were bought to help with the goalie situation on the ice Coaches: Jeremy Wilson will be assisting on ice at coaches meeting. Todd is having trouble getting goalies for coaches meeting. Jeremy may need to be paid. An e-mail will be sent to head coaches telling them there is no team managers meeting this year because there is no team director since most functions of team manger are now on website. Many people contacted Callan regarding why they didnt know about the schedule. Head coaches should contact their team to let the team know about the schedule. Fundraising: An e-mail was sent to the association asking for assistance. There was no response. There is good feedback regarding the dinner for parents. Kevin needs help with team sponsors. Kevin met with Dicks Sporting Goods. The store will give a team sponsorship and 15 coaches bags with pucks, whistle, grease board, and pinnies. Dicks is interested in doing more with us including a SYHA night where we would get a percentage. The store would be willing to do a fitting night also. Ziebat is a potential sponsor. There are currently 4 team sponsors. Kevin was hoping Kia will be sponsor but theyve been bought out. Chuckie Cheese may be a sponsor. Kevin met with Embroidery Unlimited. Jim is willing to increase his prices, and league would get around $5 per item. It was suggested that Jim might be able to set up a table at the dinner-dance to sell stuff. Kevin will be meeting with the Sharks. League made about $970 from last years Sharks game. Kevin is also hoping to meet with Holy Cross to give some tickets or support. He would like to get coaches game sponsor. The dinner-dance is scheduled for Fri., Oct. 17, 2008, at the Italian American Victory Club off Rt. 9. The club fits 140 people. Food will be provided by Qak Catering at ITAV. The DJ is willing to swap services to have his kids in House League. It was suggested league pay him $500, and then he can then do what he wants with the money. Total cost with buffet menu and with a cash bar is $2430. A charge of $50/couple was suggested. Stuff for raffle items is needed. It was suggested doing a raffle for no 6 am practices for two months. Figures are based on 100 people attending. It was then suggested charging $75 couple and having a silent auction. 7pm to midnight for dinner-dance. A calendar raffle this year is also planned. Tickets need to be ordered. It was suggested going strictly cash for calendar raffle. . Equipment: $600 has been spent so far for first aid kit for lock box, chest protector, sticks, and leg pads. League should have 10 sets of equipment, but two sets werent turned in at the end of last year. League used to have a set of lefty equipment but it is not part of inventory. Set of lefty equipment will need to be purchased in case any left-handed player wants to try goalie. Cheryl went to Pure Hockey for stuff, but store didnt have everything. She will try to get items from another store such as Sports Etc. or Kleen N Hard. Merchandising: All shirt names were accurate. There were extra socks. The charge will be $10 if anyone needs socks. It was suggested there be no team shirts or sponsors for midgets. A question was asked if a team doesnt have a sponsor will they get shirts. Something will be worked out. Schedule: The first games for NYHL will be the first week in Sept. Callan has ice times for the whole year. Tryout times need to be determined for next year. NYHL/AYHL: Wes and Mary Jo at New England are looking for conflict sheets. The New England schedule is coming out 8/28. It was suggested that the league request a blackout for Oct. 17 at Northstar and New England. Wes wants team colors and numbers. Bantams are in the wrong divisions (Bantam 1 in Gold and Bantam 2 in Green) at Northstar. This may need to be changed at parity. Midgets are doing a 10-game season the first round at New England. For the second half there are currently 20 games. It was suggested doing 10 games the second half. Both leagues requested coaches matched up with teams. New England calendar on website has coaches meetings listed for Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 at New England. Northstar has mandatory coaches meetings also scheduled. Everything is subject to change at Northstar for games. Midgets should be placed as M1 & M2 teams. Triboro is out at New England. No word on the number of teams at New England yet. Mass. Hockey: 25 players and one coach still havent registered. An e-mail will be sent saying players need to be registered by next Friday because of insurance. If a child gets injured, Mass. Hockey & SYHA are not responsible. Feb. 27, 28 & March 1 are the dates for the Peewee tournament. There will be 16 teams in the tourney. Our Peewee 2 team will be in the tournament. The Peewee 2 coach will need to submit conflict forms for this. House League: House League needs 50 minutes on Saturdays and 75 minutes on Sundays. This has been blocked out in the scheduled. House League will start Nov. 1, 2008 and go for 17 weeks. At end of 17 weeks will be a re-fee portion if kids want to plan for tryouts. Kids need to sign up for Mass. Hockey. However, if theyre under 6, they dont have to pay. Flyers should be sent to W. Boylston in addition to Shrewsbury and Boylston. The House League fee will be 3% higher than last year to cover the credit card fee. It was asked if any weeks were blocked out at the Lake Ave. rink for House League. Callan will send Dan the block out dates. Learn to Skate: The fee for the first session a child registers is $160. There will be a fee of $150 for additional session. It was suggested to keep all sessions $160. Last years fee was $135. It was suggested that if someone wants to prepay for 3 sessions at once, a discount should be given. Sessions will run in weeks of 7-7-7. Bantams: There are 10 players on B1 (9 skaters, 1 goalie), but one is injured and may not be able to play. There are 12 players on B2. One player could be moved up so thered be 11 and 11. It was suggested to have the situation remain as is for now, and the B1 can borrow from Peewee 1. The B1 coach needs to fill out borrowing form. It was suggested that Todd send an e-mail to Peewee 1 parents letting them know their child may get called up. It was questioned how many times a player can get called up. It was thought three times per player per league.
